Sometimes not even all the cherry Chapstick in the world can soften your dry lips. Luckily, I’ve found a trick that keeps my lips soft all day even living this desert life. This beauty secret only takes a couple of seconds, too!
During your morning (or evening) routine, while brushing your teeth, take a couple of seconds to exfoliate your lips by simply brushing them with your toothbrush. You will instantly notice a difference. Add a little lip balm when you’re done, and voila! You’ve got soft, kissable lips all day long. Continuing in my preventive maintenance approach to skincare, I tried Aveeno’s Active Naturals Positively Ageless Lifting and Firming Night Cream. The product is formulated with the ever-trendy shiitake mushroom complex and wheat proteins (because in theory, rubbing healthy foods on yourself is just as good for you as eating them).
This cream smells like your typical wrinkle cream fare, and rubs in easily without leaving a greasy film on your face. There was some minor tingling and irritation, which I assume is due to the fragrance. Tingly feelings always help to convince me the product’s working, so I thought maybe it was a marketing ploy, but not so! Read on.
Maybe you’re the neurotic, Type-A girl that pulls at her mascara clumps. Maybe you scrub your eye area too vigorously. Maybe you, like me, have an apparently albino family history and were cursed at birth with white-blonde, invisible, thin, sparse eyelashes and brows.

Maybelline Mineral Power Natural Perfecting Foundation is the liquid version of Maybelline’s Bare Escentuals-esque mineral powder foundation. I tried it in Light Beige, and I have to say that the shade bordered a bit on orange-y. My skin has warm yellow undertones so I’m not exactly complaining, but who’s heard of an orangey beige?
This SPF 18 foundation offers an on-the-fence type of coverage, definitely not sheer and definitely not full. While it seemed to mask minor discoloration like dark undereye circles well, my blemishes showed right through, so plan on using a concealer in conjunction with this baby if you’ve got zits.
I’m starting a new series called Makeup Tips – it’s like the short and sweet version of the typical Makeup How-tos posts. (We’re all just trying to get out the door, am I right?) Let me know if you guys like it!
Makeup tip du jour: Want to look polished everyday? Do what Katherine Heigl does, according to Glamour Magazine: brush your brows out every day before leaving the house. Even if you don’t think you have terribly gnarly eyebrow hair…well, it’s probably worse than you think, and it just gives your face that extra finished look. Give it a try – brush some clear mascara over it and check out how cleaned up you look! Continue reading “Makeup Tips: Brush Your Eyebrows!” »
