You know what’s even cooler than doing what you love for a living? When you get recognized for it. My Domestic Dish nominated me for the 2015 One Lovely Blog Award, and well if that doesn’t just make her the sweetest little peach this side o’ Georgia. (That was so Southern of me.)
My first book Go From Blog to Brand in 30 Days dealt specifically with branding yourself and your website, so I was delighted to find an entire chapter devoted to personal branding in Malene’s book. Malene outlines the visual elements of branding a website with examples from internet fashion giants. Malene goes on to talk about the more philosophical aspects of branding, and resounds with one important point I could not agree with more: treat your blog (fashion or otherwise) like a business.
Jorgensen’s book overflows with usefulness; as I perused her legal, organizational, and financial advice for bloggers, I wished I’d found it back when I began my blogging adventure and spent lots of time on the “error” step of trial-and-error. She even includes a sample business plan to help you make sure you cover all the bases, and monetization advice┬á(the topic covered in my second book The Foolproof Guide to Monetizing Your Blog) for bloggers looking to leverage their site into some dough.
Ladies looking to blog about fashion as a career would be remiss to pass up on How to Become a Fashion Writer. Check it out on Amazon or visit Malene’s website to learn more.
As a beauty blogger, I must admit that I am the permanent envy of my friends. (Tough life, right?) Free makeup, skincare and haircare products galore, flexible hours, the right to create what I want – though it’s a lot more work than most people recognize, I definitely see the appeal from the outside. As such, I’m constantly asked one burning question:
“How do I start a beauty blog?”
Seriously – I get asked this question on almost a daily basis. It’s one of the reasons I wrote my book Go From Blog to Brand in 30 Days, though that’s really targeted more toward the current blogger who wants to take their site to the next level. ┬áThat’s why I was delighted when I discovered a book on Amazon that covers this exact topic. Malene Jorgensen’s book How to Start a Beauty Blog: Building a Beauty Empire Online is a great reference for the beginning blogger.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year – and this time around Sassy Dove will be involved in a lovely project my friend across the pond Cole of the Ball came up with: the #bigblogmasproject. Basically, myself and the other devoted participants will be dutifully blogging for you every day from December 1st to December 24th, and neither snow nor rain nor Aspen ski vacation shall stay we publishers from the swift completion of our appointed rounds.
If you’d like to keep up with our posts, just click over to the #bigblogmasproject hashtag on Twitter and see what’s up, buttercup. Meanwhile, here are the links to the blogs of the other beauties who’ve committed themselves to a month of blog post love, listed by their Twitter handles: Continue reading “A Beautiful Holiday With The #BigBlogmasProject” ╗
