Face Makeup Review: CoverGirl Clean Makeup Liquid Foundation

Covergirl Clean_Liquid_Makeup ReviewI don’t mean to whine, but remember those filmy Covergirl foundations I mentioned before? Cover Girl Clean Makeup Oil Control Liquid Foundation is exactly I’m talking about. This product provides less coverage than most concealers, let alone foundations. The watery formula doesn’t even blend well!

Face Makeup Review: Chanel Teint Innocence Foundation

Face Makeup Review Chanel Teint Innocence FoundationIt’s an amazing triumph when I, in all my persistent frugality, can cross a department-store makeup item off my wishlist. This weekend’s procurement was no exception. I’ve lusted after Chanel Teint Innocence for months after reading some “Go natural but still look hot!”-type rave in Allure that mentioned it as the end-all, be-all in youthful foundation. Since then, I’ve yearned away with no real reason not to buy it other than how cheap I am. Perhaps I was trying to build excitement?

Well, it turns out there was no need. Teint Innocence amazed me from the top down. The box is luxe, shiny black with a gold band around the bottom; the jar inside’s top is matte black with Chanel’s signature intertwined Cs on top, and it has an ingenious way of locking securely onto the top of the bottle much like the gas cap on my Honda Civic. Even the opening is smart, advising moderation by allowing only a small amount of product to escape at once. Did I mention there’s Chanel foundation inside?

Face Makeup Review: L’Oreal True Match Liquid Foundation

Face Makeup Review Loreal True Match Foundation Milla JovovichAs Martha Stewart would say, any time you can find a great drugstore foundation, it’s a good thing. Likewise, one that matches your skin well is even better. L’Oreal True Match Liquid Makeup is great for an inexpensive foundation (though it won’t make you look like Milla Jovovich, no matter how many times you say “mul-tee-pass”). Use the shade matching swatches at the display (I wear Buff Beige) to find the shade best suited for you. It’s a heavier finish than I expected from a drugstore foundation, but not too matte so you’ll still have a little shine.

Makeup Review: Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals Foundation

Makeup Review Bare Minerals Foundation Mineral Makeup Try Believe LoveMineral makeup has officially made it in a big way, but it all started with Bare Escentuals BareMinerals foundation. I swear by mineral foundation in general, but I typically use Raw Minerals, Pur Minerals or even the Maybelline variety. Curiosity got the best of me and I had to test the original out for myself.

The key to Bare Minerals success, as with any loose powder mineral makeup, is using it properly. Get yourself a big kabuki brush – it doesn’t have to be the Bare Escentuals brand one – and follow the mantra of its acolytes: swirl, tap, buff. Take the kabuki, dip it in, swirl it around in the lid, tap off the excess, and buff it all over your face. When they say buff, they mean it. If you don’t do it exactly right, you’ll end up with excess powder all over you. Don’t get dressed first. (It’ll end up on your bathroom counter anyway.) Makeup Review: Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Cream Foundation

Makeup Review Maybelline instant-age-rewind-eraser foundation model-shot Christy TurlingtonI first tried Maybelline’s Age Rewind foundation just after I’d turned 22 and was not remotely in need of age-defying makeup. Five years later (yes readers, do the math), even after they added the eraser and the swirl and all that jazz, I’m still in love with the Nude Light #4 as something with nice coverage at the drugstore. I’ve tried far too many filmy Covergirl foundations in the past, so I rarely pick up base at the drugstore, but this one is amazing!

This foundation’s coverage is full and it feels creamy and rich, but blends out neatly without feeling too thick. The bottle is ingenious – its pump tip is by far the best solution to the gloppy foundation rims and overspill of product onto our counters we’ve all experienced. The color is perfect for my skin and blends out every flaw, which is surprising considering I didn’t try it on before I bought it.
