I used to regularly dye, flat iron, blowdry and otherwise abuse my hair, and even though I’m reformed, my current ends still remember the traumas of days gone past. Â I’m always looking for a product I can pamper it with as sort of an apology. Hairstylists often recommend Moroccanoil Hair Treatmentfor dry, overprocessed hair, and as you might guess, they know their stuff.
Why all the hype? The secret is argan oil, which was a well-kept secret of the Middle East until the founder of Moroccanoil got an amazing oil treatment in Israel.
The coolest part of using argan oil is the impact you get to have on the lives of the women who harvest it. Yes, I said women.
Much of the argan oil produced today is made by a number of women’s cooperatives. Employment in the cooperatives provides women with an income, which many have used to fund education for themselves or their children. It has also provided them with a degree of autonomy in a traditionally male-dominated society and has helped many become more aware of their rights.
This makes argan oil officially the coolest and most socially aware beauty breakthrough we’ve had in a long time. What better cause than making the lives of women around the globe better?
Though I try to avoid heat styling, I do adore my CHI flat iron, and my friends have been raving to me about Farouk’s hit companion goodie CHI Silk Infusion since I can remember. In fact, this product’s been such a sensation, I’m rather embarrassed to just now be jumping on the bandwagon. Late to the game is better than never showing up at all, right?
Silk Infusion is the perfect name for this leave-in. I only use a tiny amount, but my color-fried locks feel amazingly soft. With my thick hair, I often have problems with leave-ins being too gunky and weighty – but not this baby! Silk Infusion glides in without adding a hint of buildup.
Chi Silk Infusion can go on dry hair, but I also like to style by applying it while my hair’s still wet and blow-drying it in.
The verdict: 10/10! Believe the hype.
CHI Silk Infusion sells for $8.95 in the 2oz. size at Amazon.
Working in a salon, you eventually find your favorite products to use on yourself and others. One of mine would have to be Paul Mitchell’s Super Skinny Serum, a product from their smoothing line.
I used this product on nearly every client at the salon because it reduces drying time. Just rub one pump into damp hair, then blow dry. Super Skinny Serum helps keep down frizz and dry hair more quickly while adding shine. It can be used on just about anybody, and all it takes is one pump! A little goes a long way.
The only negative: if your hair’s too thin or fine, this product could weigh it down and make it look oily. Try to test it out before you buy if you’re worried, and use only a little at a time, building it in to make sure you don’t oversaturate your hair.
The verdict: 9 out of 10! Great for anyone in need of frizz control and added shine.
Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Smoothing Serum sells at Amazon.com for $19.88.
Living in the desert is totally different than it was living in Houston. While moisturizing was optional and sometimes disastrous in humid southeast Texas, it’s a must in Phoenix. Both my skin and hair have completely changed from dripping-oily to bone dry since I moved. What’s a girl to do?
Luckily, I just so happen to be well versed in the world of hair care, and I know that argan oil and keratin are two essential ingredients for keeping hair strong and ends moisturized. When I heard about Hask’s Argan Oil and Keratin Protein lines, I was stoked to try them out on my limp ends!
With all of the dyeing, curling, straightening and blowdrying I put my hair through, some days I’m surprised it hasn’t fallen out yet. One major reason that my hair graces me with the privelege of not yet being bald is my use of products like Ouidad’s Botanical Boost, a lightweight leave-in that spritzes in easily and provides natural moisture. If you have curls, pay attention: this is the solution your dry, brittle hair’s been waiting for.
