Celebrity Makeup: Eva Longoria in Allure

Being a former Desperate Housewives seductress and one of the most beautiful women in the world just isn’t enough for Eva Longoria – she had to show up in Allure looking amazing in one of those ’50s bathing suits I’m still coveting right now, six years later. Since publishing, this look has become one of Eva’s most popular of all time. Continue reading “Celebrity Makeup: Eva Longoria in Allure”

Why Red Hair Fades (And How to Keep Red Looking Vibrant)

redhead beauty keeping red hair vibrant and brightMore and more, it seems, ladies are coloring their hair shades of red or adding red tones to give their manes some more grrrr. I’m my own example. I love the way the sunlight hits my hair and seems to set it on fire when I’ve got it a nice deep red. People are always asking me how I get this vibrant color – but the trick isn’t getting it, it’s keeping it.

The only problem: whether you’re faking natural ginger a la Amy Pond or channeling a fire engine like Eva Marie, red fades quickly. Want to know the reason behind this? It’s actually pretty interesting (to a person like me who enjoys useless trivia, anyway). Okay, here it is:

Makeup Reviews: L’Oreal Infallible Lip Gloss

L'oreal Infallible Lip GlossMy rule on longwear lipcolor has always been to divide the number of hours it claims to last by three to get a closer estimate of how long the product will stick around. The hardest part, though, is finding lip gloss that actually looks good while it stays on. Luckily, I’ve discovered L’Oreal Infallible Never Fail Lip Gloss.

The applicator tip is the key to this product’s genius – it’s bent at an angle, making it easy to apply the gloss evenly in just one swipe per lip, while the pointed tip makes neatly covering the outer corners of lips and the arches under the Cupid’s bow a breeze.

Matthew Fox In L’Oreal Men Expert Commercial

Matthew_Fox_LOrealRemember Lost? I loved that show – right up until the last episode. Half-a-decade-late spoiler alert: they’re all dead. One of my favorite parts of the show was Matthew Fox, AKA brooding Dr. Jack Shepherd, for obvious reasons.

So you’ve heard about how real celebrities here run away to Europe and Asia and make some extra cash selling stuff on their commercials, right? Well, here’s a video of good ol’ Matthew hawking L’Oreal’s Men Expert skincare line in France. And boxing and running and speaking French. You’re welcome.

Video after the jump. It’s L’Oreal, so it’s beauty related. Right? Right.

L’Oreal Vive Pro Color Shampoo and Conditioner Review

loreal vive pro color vive reviewWhile I adore a good bargain in cosmetic products, I have to admit that I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to haircare. Consequently, I tend to turn up my nose at any shampoo or conditioner available at the drugstore. (If I don’t have to at least go to Trade Secret, it’s not good enough!) But I’ve enjoyed L’Oreal’s makeup and haircolor lines, so I thought I’d give their Vive Pro Color Vive line the chance to impress me.

Color Vive offers formulas for normal, damaged and highlighted hair; since I’m an ex-blonde with red color on top and a tendency toward strawlike Scarecrow strands, I opted for “damaged”. The shampoo’s scent is clean, light and reminds me of the smell hair salon shampoos have – not a bad sign! You don’t need much shampoo and the lather isn’t a gargantuan bubbly mess, so it rinses well even when followed with Color Vive Conditioner.
