Despite my being in my late twenties, I still have issues with acne. Hooray! Scanning the shelves for Emergency Four-Alarm Magic Acne Eliminator, I decided to try Clearasil Ultra Acne Solution System. The pack comes with a cleanser, toner, moisturizer and a free sample of their quick-start treatment cream. I began using it daily, at morning and night, and instantly fell in love.
The cleanser is a little grainy – I am guessing to act as an exfoliant – but it is gentle enough for daily use. It leaves your skin feeling clean, fresh and looking good. It works really well at removing all makeup including eye makeup, which some cleansers have a hard time doing. It is to be used every morning and every night.
In the beauty world, makeup represents outer beauty while skincare handles inner beauty. (Of course, real inner beauty is a lot more than moisturizing daily, but here we stick to the simple stuff.) One of my beauty goals this year is to get more naturally, just-waking-up beautiful. That journey starts and ends with great skincare.
Enter Rodan + Fields, a skincare company created by dermatologists Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields (who created Proactiv – what more credibility do you need than that?). I’m into science – I trust it – so I love knowing that there’s some good healthy research behind my skincare products, and Rodan + Fields has research in spades.
I don’t often review men’s products, mostly because I’m not a man. However, I do have a secret love of wearing men’s cologne. They just always smell so much deeper than women’s fragrances. So when Savon Pour Homme reached out to let me sample their line of cologne soaps for men, I couldn’t resist the gender-bending opportunity.
I received the starter set, which Savon Pour Homme describes as “a great way to experience our soaps without having to dive right into the real thing.” The soap starter set comes with a 4oz. oval-shaped body cleansing bar, a 3oz. round facial bar and two square samplers.
Soap for Men says their fragrance has been compared to the likes of Davidoff’s Cool Water and Armani’s Acqua Di Gio, and I definitely got the light, aquatic aroma. There’s a tinge of jasmine, though, which adds a subtle floral note that’s still manly enough for the most masculine of users. It felt extremely silky to use and reminded me a bit of LUSH Cosmetics’ soaps. Plus, it’s dye-free. Nice!
Ever since we turned twelve and our faces went haywire with oil and blemishes, skincare has been complicated for us women. Should you use astringent? What if you have dry skin? What age should you begin moisturizing? Should you moisturize all over? Luckily, Philosophy, the hippest name in skin care, has one easy solution in a box – and it works! The Makeup Optional Skincare Mini kit includes the following giant array of products:
I’m always looking for a great facial cleanser, and Biore Blemish Fighting Ice Cleanser does the trick in twenty different ways. It fights blemishes better than its Neutrogena or Clean and Clear counterparts, and the tingling icy feeling on your face is amazing. (As I’ve said before, I love products that feellike they’re doing something.) I pop this baby out right when I wake up in the morning, and it energizes and invigorates me.
