I know, I know. You saw the title of this post and thought, “yeah, yeah, yeah. That’s what they always say.” And so would I have, six weeks ago. Commercials would have you believe that every product ever is a life-changer, and we know that from experience to be false.
The ladies who created the skincare routine I’m referencing, Dr. Rodan and Dr. Fields, actually discussed this in a screencast we did together. They noted how women today are highly skeptical of what can be achieved with a topical product – and why shouldn’t we be, when it seems that none of them work?
I was one of these women. I was also a daily makeup junkie. I had the entire StriVectin skin line, as well as an arsenal of other skin care warriors at my disposal. I spent at least a half hour a day in front of the mirror doing my makeup. Sure, I enjoyed it, but I also felt I needed it because of the condition of my skin.
When I got the Rodan + Fields Redefine Acute Care kit, I was initially overwhelmed with how much time and effort I now had to put into my skincare in the morning and evening. The whole thing only takes 5-10 minutes – but I was used to a quick washcloth swipe and off to bed.

The very first morning I woke up after doing my nighttime Redefine Acute Care routine, I was FLOORED. My skin looked glowing. I had never seen it like this. I was used to dullness and a sallow look… but not anymore.

The truth is as it always is: simple but powerful. There are only two ingredients: hyaluronic acid (you know I like that) and Sh-oligopeptide-1, which sounds like a zombie virus from a movie but is actually a peptide that reduces the appearance of wrinkles and visibly increases skin firmness and elasticity, diminishing the look of unwanted expression lines.
As I finished putting on mascara and dabbed my cursory glob of concealer on my ring finger, I looked at the lineless glowy visage staring back at me and thought, “I don’t want to ruin this with makeup…. maybe later on today, when this wears off.”
Later never came, and it’s been six weeks. I’ve only worn makeup on my skin once for a special occasion since (of course I still wear mascara and liner – I gotta be me), and even then, I felt disappointed when I looked at it. There’s just something so freeing about being naturally beautiful; about not being afraid to touch your face; about never worrying that when you smile the makeup around your eyes and smile will crinkle into visible cakey lines.
I feel naturally beautiful now – like a model, someone who doesn’t need makeup – who’s pretty from the inside out. Truly, it has changed my daily routine and the way I live my life.
