Dude, styling in the summer is lame. In two hours, your hair is full of salt, stuck to your face, or wilted down and glued to your backsweat. What’s a gal to do? Ditch the fancy French twists for a month or two and opt for easy-peasy style: white sunglasses.
Are sunglasses a hair accessory? You bet your ballerina bun. Here’s some familiar faces of celebrity ladies looking low-effort chic in white sunnies:
Emma’s not the only celeb in love with white Wayfarers – we’ll always have Paris:
As do Drew Barrymore and Hayden Panettiere:
But what does the other Emma do for white shades?
Coat is Gucci Resort 2007, floral.
Christina Aguilera digs white sunglasses, both in this ultra-femme va-va-voom hairstyle…
…and rockin’ a wee hipster influence with Bettie-Page-but-choppier bangs, a 90s-worthy flannel and White Super Classic sunglasses.
Of course our girl Taylor Swift, who adopts and destroys literally every style, has rocked this look six ways to Sunday:
Taylor’s even gone the white Wayfarer route (though her best publicized Wayfarer looks are cherry red and light pink):
Ariana Grande does a different take on the look with this super retro pair, but she kept her standard high-ponytail hairstyle…
But how can you style it for a summery look that’s so 2015 and not J.Lo-circa-Bennifer-1? Here are a few general tips aside from copying the celebs above:
- Wear a mid-high ponytail. It doesn’t have to be Ariana level, but that 50s-cheerleader effect is super charming this way.
- Wrap it in a scarf or headwrap. Think Hitchcockian heroine in a convertible – rawr.
- Don’t skip the (spray) tan. Skin cancer is very un-chic, but everything white looks better with a tan, so go Mystic up and then rock these shades.
- Go strategically sleeker or messier. Street/beach style calls for a messy bun, ruffles and shrimpy shorts with your white shades, but if you’re channeling that St. Tropez resort life, a retro wrap one-piece, wedges and ultra-pulled back hair is a must. (Remember Mia Wallace at the end of Pulp Fiction?)
What do you guys think of the white sunglasses look? Is it the go-to summer hair accessory for lazy gals like me?
