Maybelline Mineral Power Concealer Review

Maybelline Mineral Power Concealer Review - Face Makeup Reviews Christy TurlingtonThe mineral makeup craze is booming – so much so that even our drugstore pals Maybelline couldn’t help but get in on the action! Let’s try out the new rating system on Maybelline Mineral Power Natural Perfecting Concealer.

coverage: 5/5
For a drugstore product, I was very impressed with this concealer’s coverage. This baby blotted out my dark undereye circles with the greatest of ease!

texture: 3/5
While it was thick and matte, the finish wasn’t amazing and was almost grainy-looking. Still, I thought it made my skin look more natural than most concealers do, and it blended easily (at least to my skin in color Fair: Light 0-1).

Eye Makeup Review: Almay Intense I-Color Mascara

Makeup Review Almay Intense I-Color Mascara Blonde Model Blue MakeupSo I’ve had two colored mascaras run-ins: one pink and horrifying, and one blue and mediocre. Still, you guys know I can’t resist colorful and slightly drag-queeny makeup, so I haven’t given up on my search for a decent-looking one. Almay’s Intense I-Color line holds several options, but I picked the shade in Play Up the Green, for green eyes!

“But Cailin, I thought you had blue eyes!” you’re thinking. “Has it all been a lie?” Yes, my silly readers, I have blue eyes, but I’ll wear anything once, and I’m always attracted to colors made for green eyes for some reason.

I remembered my previous experiences and decided I should try to strike a balance between intensity and wearability. I thought purple was the obvious choice – playful enough to be fun and avant-garde, yet dark enough to not make you look like a Dolce & Gabbana ad. Still, I was too gun-shy to sample the real purple and opted for “Raisin Quartz”, a warm maroon shade somewhere between brown and purple.

As always, the result wasn’t the overflowing fountain of fabulosity I’d hoped for. The color was, again, a little vanilla, and the mascara didn’t lengthen as much as I like. Still, it’s creative enough and encourages girls to play with their makeup.

Makeup Review: Clinique Glow Crazy Powder Highlighter

Makeup Review Clinique Glow Crazy Powder Highlighter Brandied Bronze ModelClinique’s appeal has always been heightened by their famous Gifts With Purchase. Who can resist? All you’ve gotta do is buy what you came for, and voila! You come out the other side with a whole new batch of products to try, which as you may have guessed, is one of the Dove’s weaknesses. All my makeup early in life came from my grandmother’s Clinique-gift-with-purchase hand-me downs.

I ended up with the brand’s Glow Crazy Powder Highlighter via one of these surprise packages, and I’m confident it was fate. I landed #07 Platinum Glow, which is a delectably shimmery white color, and craving more, I sampled both Blooming Pink and Gold Dust and was equally impressed, but the white’s definitely the most versatile. That’s the great thing about these powders – they’re loose, shimmery and intense.

For all it offers, this highlighter has one big letdown: the container has an odd small round hole in the top, making it difficult to get a good amount of powder on any applicator. It’s impossible to get nearly any of the stuff on a sizable tool like a blush brush or powder puff, and if you dip a small eyeshadow brush in the opening, a giant clump of powder bursts out on the bristles. It’s worth it for a beautiful shadow though!

Hair Product Review: Sunsilk Hydra TLC Shampoo & Conditioner

Hair Product Review Sunsilk Hydra TLC Shampoo & Conditioner AdI’m always a little wary of drugstore hair care. It probably comes with my hearing about wax in Pantene (a post to come), or maybe my very American association of spending more money with better quality, but whatever the reason, I cringe when I buy shampoo or conditioner that isn’t $15+.

Sunsilk Hydra TLC ConditionerStill, I received some samples of Sunsilk in the mail (here’s a tip, beauty companies: GIRLS LOVE SAMPLES) and was intrigued by the various formulas, if still a bit annoyed by the commercials with voiceovers of Charlotte’s gay friend Anthony from Sex & the City telling me to “get Hairapy!”. Plus, when I saw the price tag I figured I couldn’t go wrong. I tried Hydra TLC, because in my experience, shine-enhancing, volumizing and other such hair problems can be fixed by simply improving your hair’s health and moisture.

Eye Makeup Review: Rimmel Lash Maxxx Mascara

Eye Makeup Review Rimmel Lash Maxxx Mascara Kate MossAs my faithful readers know, I’m a huge fan of comb mascaras, and I was particularly impressed with Telescopic’s flexible plastic bristles. So Rimmel’s brush that combines the one-sided bristles of Lash Stylist’s comb and the flexibility of L’Oreal’s Telescopic seemed destined for success – plus, Kate Moss is in the ad! It has to be fabulous, right?

The packaging is adorable – both super feminine and high fashion at once. And the price is certainly right. But while the separating effect was great and my lashes still felt soft after two coats, this mascara didn’t give me the volume or length of other comb-brushed mascaras. The spiny plastic also felt a little creepy on my eyes, especially in trying to catch the tiny blonde lashes on the inner and outer edges of my lashes.
