4 Tips For Applying Better Eyeshadow

How-To-Apply-Eyeshadow Tips and TricksEye makeup is probably the most difficult thing to master in makeup artistry, and though it may feel like the impact comes with the liner and mascara, the truth is, your eyeshadowed lids are the canvas and the basis for the lovely work of art you’re creating. Here are some helpful tips and tricks on how to best apply eyeshadow:

BRUSH UP: When applying eyeshadow, it is best to use a brush rather than┬áthe spongy applicator most shadows come with. ┬áThe sponge pads don’t blend well and can result in a lesser quality look. They can also absorb much more product, which wastes it in the end and when you’re paying $13 per eyeshadow, less is more!

Eye Makeup Review: Almay Intense I-Color Mascara

Makeup Review Almay Intense I-Color Mascara Blonde Model Blue MakeupSo I’ve had two colored mascaras run-ins: one pink and horrifying, and one blue and mediocre. Still, you guys know I can’t resist colorful and slightly drag-queeny makeup, so I haven’t given up on my search for a decent-looking one. Almay’s Intense I-Color line holds several options, but I picked the shade in Play Up the Green, for green eyes!

“But Cailin, I thought you had blue eyes!” you’re thinking. “Has it all been a lie?” Yes, my silly readers, I have blue eyes, but I’ll wear anything once, and I’m always attracted to colors made for green eyes for some reason.

I remembered my previous experiences and decided I should try to strike a balance between intensity and wearability. I thought purple was the obvious choice – playful enough to be fun and avant-garde, yet dark enough to not make you look like a Dolce & Gabbana ad. Still, I was too gun-shy to sample the real purple and opted for “Raisin Quartz”, a warm maroon shade somewhere between brown and purple.

As always, the result wasn’t the overflowing fountain of fabulosity I’d hoped for. The color was, again, a little vanilla, and the mascara didn’t lengthen as much as I like. Still, it’s creative enough and encourages girls to play with their makeup.

Revlon Diamond Lust Sheer Shadow Eye Makeup Review

Revlon Diamond Lust Sheer Shadow Eye Makeup ReviewI’ve been trying to get ahold of all of the Revlon Limited Edition Collection makeup, so here’s a review for one of my latest acquisitions. These eyeshadows come in delectably feminine pastels, and the first one I got was Pillow Talk Pink – what an adorable name, huh? It’s actually not my favorite of the colors available; the White Hot, Grab Me Gold and Bedroom Bronze are all much more flattering and useful.

The shadows are touchably soft when you apply them, but they aren’t the most intense in either shine or color. It’s a more shimmery finish than it is glittery, which makes the application smoother and less likely to smudge, but the shine is minimal.

Eye Makeup Review: Maybelline Shadow Stylist Loose Powder Eyeshadow

Eye Makeup Review Maybelline Shadow Stylist Loose Powder Eyeshadow CalendarI often find regular powder eyeshadows smudge too easily, so I’m attracted to products like this with alternative application methods. I purchased Maybelline Shadow Stylist Loose Powder Eyeshadow in both Contemporary White and Romantic Pink (blushy shades are supposed to highlight blue eyes well). Both colors are nice and intense. The “loose powder” part of the description doesn’t exactly translate when you apply it – it feels more like a cream – but that’s fine with me, as again, I’m trying to avoid the mess.

I don’t really feel white has much place in general shadow use such as applying all over the eyelid, but I use it often for highlighting the inside corners and lower inner rim of my eyes. The applicator is a classic felt tip similar to many eyeliners, and I love it. Regular shadow is too much work to get pure color out of – go with a product like this instead!

The verdict: 10/10! There’s really nothing bad to say about it. If you want intense, easy to apply eye color, here it is.

Maybelline Shadow Stylist Loose Powder Eyeshadow sells at Amazon.com for $12.64.
