Makeup Review: Clinique Glow Crazy Powder Highlighter

Clinique’s appeal has always been heightened by their famous Gifts With Purchase. Who can resist? All you’ve gotta do is buy what you came for, and voila! You come out the other side with a whole new batch of products to try, which as you may have guessed, is one of the Dove’s weaknesses. All my makeup early in life came from my grandmother’s Clinique-gift-with-purchase hand-me downs.

I ended up with the brand’s Glow Crazy Powder Highlighter via one of these surprise packages, and I’m confident it was fate. I landed #07 Platinum Glow, which is a delectably shimmery white color, and craving more, I sampled both Blooming Pink and Gold Dust and was equally impressed, but the white’s definitely the most versatile. That’s the great thing about these powders – they’re loose, shimmery and intense.

For all it offers, this highlighter has one big letdown: the container has an odd small round hole in the top, making it difficult to get a good amount of powder on any applicator. It’s impossible to get nearly any of the stuff on a sizable tool like a blush brush or powder puff, and if you dip a small eyeshadow brush in the opening, a giant clump of powder bursts out on the bristles. It’s worth it for a beautiful shadow though!

The verdict: 6/10 – This powder’s got amazing potential, but it’s sullied by the jar it comes in.

You’ll love it if: You have multiple pots of Bare Escentuals concoctions; you consider your look youthful but vibrant; you secretly live for leaning over the bathroom counter carefully applying eye makeup

You’ll hate it if: You like straight-forward makeup products, preferably those that come with step-by-step instructions; you won’t spend more than 5 minutes in front of the mirror in the morning

Clinique Glow Crazy Loose Powder sells for $25 at Amazon.com. Get it now and let me know if you figure out how to get some out of the jar, would ya?
