You’ve heard the hype everywhere: the Naked Palette is by far one of the biggest beauty products to emerge in the last few years. Heck, they’ve got 3 of them now, and offshoot palettes (plus knockoffs from other brands) to boot. But why is the Naked Palette the name on everyone’s lips?
Beauty gals know beauty gals. And in the holiday season, a cheapie set of eyeshadows from that gimme-gift aisle in the seasonal section just won’t do. C’mon, your girls deserve to get something they’ll actually use – and love.
Who doesn’t love a little sparkle in the nude? Bobbi Brown’sShimmering Nudes Collection includes her limited-edition Shimmering Nudes Palette, a mix of seven nude tones in flat, sheer shimmer and high shimmer shades. The palette includes four new and five exclusive eye shadows, and I’m happy to report it made my travel bag, so you know it’s good!
Those of you who read Sassy Dove often know that I love intense, wild eyeshadow colors, so I was excited to try Bobbi Brown’s metallic eyeshadows collection. Voted Best Eye Shadow by Self Magazine, the line includes a large range of colors that piqued my artsy interest.
I was pleased by the many shade choices which ran the gamut from pale pink and lavender to dark brown and navy. Bobbi’s line is more shimmery and pearly than glittery, making it easy to avoid the drag queen effect that often accompanies more luminous makeup. However, the muted sparkle makes the darker shades look less metallic than the lighter ones. My favorites from this line: Champagne Quartz, Pink Pearl, Sage and Velvet Plum.
Everyone loves a good makeup palette, especially when it’s from Bobbi Brown. Bobbi’s Mauve Collection is a limited edition line with refreshingly neutral colors; when it seems every cosmetics company is debuting intense pigments, it’s nice to get quality colors that are still wearable.
The Mauve Collection’s palette is a black, sleek, modern affair with a blush, 3 eyeshadows and 3 lip colors. The blush, called – surprise – Mauve, is a dusty rose and was surprisingly flattering to my warm skin tone. An interesting tidbit: the Mauve Collection was inspired by Ali McGraw’s look in the classic film Love Story.
