Public Image Salon on Roosevelt Row

The city of Phoenix bears many sterling attractions that could surprise even the most staunchly devoted Californian, and one of its crown jewels is the hip Roosevelt Row. Rebelliously emblazoned in murals (think more Banksy than hippie) and ebullient with driftwood-embellished coffee shops and brunch spots, it’s a compulsory item on the to-do list for any visitor — and a major factor for consideration in apartment searches.

Roosevelt’s newest gem is Public Image, a full service salon whose moniker pays homage to the punk days of yore. Could one dream up a more perfect addition to the Row?

I visited Public Image, nestled next to 3rd Street beneath the lucky inhabitants of Roosevelt Point, and immediately found myself envious of the aforementioned nearby residents. Blowouts and mani-pedis in walking distance of my home, in a spacious locale replete with fab local artwork? Sign. Me. Up.

I first visited with Suki, house nail aficionado who chatted passionately with me about Japanese trends in nail art while applying the new Smith and Cult nail polish in Dirty Baby:

Tres chic, no?

Then it was off to a styling service with the inimitable Jonathan, whose relaxed beachy wave was anything but standard issue – not a stray hair in sight but still somehow laid-back:

Mark my words, fellow Phoenicians: this beautifully cultivated salon will soon become impossible to book your seat in, so stop off after Jobot and get your name on the list while you can.
