Looking For A New Home? Is A Row House Right For You?

Row houses are single family houses which share common walls with their neighbors. They are desired pieces of real state, mostly because they usually have historical value. These houses usually have two to five stories and they all share a similar aspect.

Row houses can be a great investment if you are looking to purchase a piece of real estate? But how do you really know that a row house is good for you? Let’s find out more about the history of these houses and their characteristics.

Historical value

Row houses have become quite popular back in the 18th century and they could be found in many important cities. One of the reasons why they were constructed is because they required the “assembly line” method of construction which made them cost effective, and reduced the period of time needed for construction.

A row house could be built one stage at a time. For example, when workers laid the pipes, they did this for all the houses before moving to the next stage. Row houses are also convenient when it comes to space. Their style allowed them to fit on a narrow lot which was a great solution for crowded cities.

Where can you find them?

If you are looking for historical row houses you should know that you can find them in three important cities: New York City, Philadelphia and San Francisco. The row houses there have historical value as they have been around since the 19th century and they are an essential part of the city. You can find row houses in numerous other cities. For example, there are some great prices for Denver Rowhomes.

Should you get a row house?

Row houses are ideal for those who want a city life. This kind of house offers a lot more space compared to a condo or an apartment. Despite the fact that row houses have been around for many years, this does not mean that they are outdated.

These buildings have been modernized and you can even purchase a row house with an elevator or a roof garden. Nonetheless, there are some disadvantages as well. For example, the fact that you have to share a wall with your neighbor is something that many people don’t enjoy. Additionally, since you are the sole owner of the property, this means that you have to handle maintenance on your own.

If you purchase a row house it is unlikely that you will be able to make major changes when it comes to the façade of your home. That is because these houses usually have landmark status, so you need to preserve them.
