Longwear lip makeup is all the rage. But which brands stand up and which peter out? Today we’re putting a few of the most popular longwear lipsticks to the test: Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick, Too Faced Melted, and both Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick. Here we go!
This was one of the first of the recent wave of longwear lip products I tried, based on a recommendation from a makeup artist who swears by them. I tried nearly every shade but ran into serious wearability issues – most of the shades looked clowny on me or weird with my skin tone. I finally found one I liked, a shade called Velvet.
THE BAD: The texture is slightly thin, so sometimes the color comes out uneven. And no matter how perfectly you apply it, dry it, blot it and wait, your lipstick will eventually end up on your straw and slowly feather and bleed.
The shade range of the Kat Von D line is much more appealing than that of Too Faced; mine is a truly Kylie-worthy color called Exorcism. Like, goth Kylie. Monster High Kylie.
THE GOOD: The texture is thinner than Too Faced Melted, and goes on a bit like painting, which allows for some finesse. It definitely has better staying power than Melted – wow!
THE BAD: The thinner texture also means that some splotchiness can be visible, particularly after awhile. It can also dry your lips out considerably. Still, it’s pretty killer – it might just be advisable to get a color closer to your natural lip color so you can hide these effects.

Spoiler: this one’s my fave. I got it in Patina, and I mean… just look at it.
THE GOOD: Like, everything. Texture is creamy and applies evenly. The formula dries quickly and is fairly forgiving of my terrible artistry. The end product is just beautiful.
THE BAD: It’s not really “bad”, but the color does get a bit pilly and actually darkens slightly after extended wear. But I mean, we’re talkin’ hours.
BONUS REVIEW: While I ADORE Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick, Stila’s Stay All Day Vinyl Lip Gloss is highly problematic. While it looks great the second you apply it, it’s very sticky and doesn’t dry. This means that the idea of it staying all day is a distant dream. God help you if you eat or drink something — you’ll look like a splotchy toddler caught playing in mommy’s cosmetics bag.
BUT… the initial finish is deceptively beautiful.
As lip glosses go, it’s great. It’s just by no means longwear, and very sticky.

I have not tried any of these, all I know is I hate the Revlon one from the drugstore. That Kat Von D makes you look so pale.
