How To: Cut Your Own Bangs

If you’re a girl with bangs, you probably find that your fringe doesn’t weather the full 4-6 weeks between trips to the hair salon without falling into your eyes or making your haircut look funny. Not to worry – you can touch your bangs up yourself at home, without the time and expense of traveling to your hairstylist. (Don’t tell her, though.)

I actually took the plunge and cut myself an entire fringe out of my regular even-length hair – really! (Seriously, where would we be in life without Youtube?)

Here are a couple of tips to help tame your bangs until your next haircut by cutting them yourself:

  1. Part off your “fringe” area in a triangle. Make sure that it’s not too thick, or too thin, and that you only part off what is indeed your bangs.
  2. Trim them to the length that you want them. It’s best to only trim about ¼” just to be sure you don’t cut off too much.
  3. Once you’ve trimmed them all the way across, gather up the parted hair and cut it all vertically.
  4. Let your bangs fall naturally and brush them the way you want them. Make sure they look even and clean up any extra long pieces you may have missed.

TIP: When trimming, try cutting in an upward direction. It will ensure that even if the cut is uneven, it will be less noticeable and will give you a ridged, natural look without cut lines. Trust me, it will look much better. I’ve had classes on this!

See? Easy as that and you can make your fringe look bangin’ all the time! (Oh, yeah. I went there.)
