Makeup Myth: Double Dipping Your Mascara

Makeup Myth Double Dipping Your Mascara Woman Eye Makeup BlueA common habit for ladies who are running low on their favorite mascara is to “pump” the brush in and out of the tube to get more mascara on the brush. I’m here to tell you: stop doin’ it! This actually pushes air into the tube and dries your mascara out. Before you know it, you’ll have a clumpy mess of what used to be your lash plumping and separating best friend. No bueno!

So what’s the solution? Simple. Twist the brush while it’s inside the tube and get some more black sexy goodness on there. Your mascara will last longer, clump less and cover eyelashes better. Bellissimo! (That’s right. Spanish to Italian. Go ahead and argue with me.)

Eye Makeup Review: Almay Intense I-Color Mascara

Makeup Review Almay Intense I-Color Mascara Blonde Model Blue MakeupSo I’ve had two colored mascaras run-ins: one pink and horrifying, and one blue and mediocre. Still, you guys know I can’t resist colorful and slightly drag-queeny makeup, so I haven’t given up on my search for a decent-looking one. Almay’s Intense I-Color line holds several options, but I picked the shade in Play Up the Green, for green eyes!

“But Cailin, I thought you had blue eyes!” you’re thinking. “Has it all been a lie?” Yes, my silly readers, I have blue eyes, but I’ll wear anything once, and I’m always attracted to colors made for green eyes for some reason.

I remembered my previous experiences and decided I should try to strike a balance between intensity and wearability. I thought purple was the obvious choice – playful enough to be fun and avant-garde, yet dark enough to not make you look like a Dolce & Gabbana ad. Still, I was too gun-shy to sample the real purple and opted for “Raisin Quartz”, a warm maroon shade somewhere between brown and purple.

As always, the result wasn’t the overflowing fountain of fabulosity I’d hoped for. The color was, again, a little vanilla, and the mascara didn’t lengthen as much as I like. Still, it’s creative enough and encourages girls to play with their makeup.

Eye Makeup Review: Dior Diorshow Mascara

Eye Makeup Review Diorshow Mascara Natalie Portman

Eye Makeup Review Diorshow MascaraSo you’ll probably learn that as far as cosmetics go, I love Dior. (J’adore Dior! Heh.) And Diorshow Mascara is no exception. I use Black #090, and it is fantastic. It has a classic thick, lush brush, but is surprisingly soft to the touch. This mascara will give your lashes fullness like never before, and there are no clumps in sight.

Diorshow’s only flaw is that it doesn’t separate, so I prefer to use a comb mascara first and then topcoat with this. Your lashes will look longer and more voluptuous than they ever have. I’ve seen many mascaras claim to give the appearance of false lashes, but this one comes the closest I’ve seen yet, and it even seems to curl as well.

Makeup Review: L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara

Makeup Review LOreal Telescopic Mascara Penelope CruzI love trying new mascaras, and it’s even better if I can get them at drugstore prices. The big trend these days seems to be changing the wand, and L’Oreal’s Telescopic has done just that with its innovative flexible brush with plastic bristles.

I tried Telescopic in Blackest Black (because really, who buys any other color?) and the wand seemed to grab any stray lashes and coat them beautifully.
