The Crafty Side of Sassy: MommyDove.com

Mommy Dove square logoThose of you who know me well know that I am for some reason compelled to express myself ad nauseam. Lately, my mind is dominated by DIY projects, crafting and home decorating – and I’ve always loved making delicious and creative recipes.

For this reason and to do something productive with all that inspiration, we’ve added a new member to the Dove family of websites: MommyDove.com. Along with The Branded Blogger, that makes three sites I’m running at once – yikes!

Just because Mommy Dove isn’t about your face doesn’t mean it isn’t beautiful. To me, beauty is a focus both in the way I want to look and in my daily surroundings. Even you beauty girls will probably love the first DIY article, which outlines how I made over my hairband container and turned an old toothbrush holder into a makeup brush caddy.

Of course, I’ll continue to bring you fantabulous beauty content here at Sassy Dove, but if you’re into crafting, recipes, do-it-yourself home makeover projects, and fun family life, Mommy Dove might have a lot to offer you too. Check it out and support us by liking Mommy Dove’s Facebook page! Looking forward to the journey with you ladies.

How to Become a Fashion Writer Review

How to Become a Fashion WriterYou may recall my review of Malene Jorgensen’s book How to Start a Beauty Blog. Malene has written another lovely piece you ladies might be interested in entitled How to Become a Fashion Writer, devoted to fashion blogging. As with the first one, I was not disappointed.

My first book Go From Blog to Brand in 30 Days dealt specifically with branding yourself and your website, so I was delighted to find an entire chapter devoted to personal branding in Malene’s book. Malene outlines the visual elements of branding a website with examples from internet fashion giants. Malene goes on to talk about the more philosophical aspects of branding, and resounds with one important point I could not agree with more: treat your blog (fashion or otherwise) like a business.

Jorgensen’s book overflows with usefulness; as I perused her legal, organizational, and financial advice for bloggers, I wished I’d found it back when I began my blogging adventure and spent lots of time on the “error” step of trial-and-error. She even includes a sample business plan to help you make sure you cover all the bases, and monetization advice (the topic covered in my second book The Foolproof Guide to Monetizing Your Blog) for bloggers looking to leverage their site into some dough.

Ladies looking to blog about fashion as a career would be remiss to pass up on How to Become a Fashion Writer. Check it out on Amazon or visit Malene’s website to learn more.

How to Start a Beauty Blog

How to Start a Beauty BlogAs a beauty blogger, I must admit that I am the permanent envy of my friends. (Tough life, right?) Free makeup, skincare and haircare products galore, flexible hours, the right to create what I want – though it’s a lot more work than most people recognize, I definitely see the appeal from the outside. As such, I’m constantly asked one burning question:

“How do I start a beauty blog?”

Seriously – I get asked this question on almost a daily basis. It’s one of the reasons I wrote my book Go From Blog to Brand in 30 Days, though that’s really targeted more toward the current blogger who wants to take their site to the next level.  That’s why I was delighted when I discovered a book on Amazon that covers this exact topic. Malene Jorgensen’s book How to Start a Beauty Blog: Building a Beauty Empire Online is a great reference for the beginning blogger.
