Lip Makeup Review: Maybelline Superstay Lipcolor & Gloss

Lip Makeup Review Maybelline Superstay Lipcolor Gloss Feature

Lip Makeup Review Maybelline Superstay Lipcolor GlossI really hate “extended wear” lipcolor in general because most of it is, for lack of a better term, bullshit. Like most women, I have tried to pull off red lip color with this technique in the hopes that an hour later, more will be on my lips than my teeth. Sadly, the result usually involves the color flaking and me rubbing it off my lips all night. So I was skeptical about trying Maybelline’s new approach to the concept, but the gloss surprised me. I bought #103, Rhinestone Pink, attempting to get an all-day solution to my constant application of light pink shimmery gloss.

As with most longwear formulas, you apply the color and let it dry for two minutes, then apply the gloss. However, most longwear formulas don’t dry in two minutes, and you end up with a sloppy mess of gloss and sticky color if you try to follow the instructions correctly. Not so with this gloss! It dried quickly with only a minimal amount of stickiness, and the gloss slicked right over. It actually felt like I was wearing normal lipgloss.

My only complaints include the color, which I felt was a bit overly light, and the 12 hour claim. This did last awhile, but it was in no way 12 hours. Probably closer to 3 hours. Now, I’m hard on gloss: I eat, drink, kiss, chew gum, talk, and generally torture-test it in every way possible. But for a longwear, I was wholly impressed.

The verdict: 8/10 – definitely the best longwear I’ve tried. I’ll buy the red and get back to you guys.

Maybelline Superstay Lipcolor & Gloss sells at AmericaRx for $9.49.
