Makeup Reviews: Bobbi Brown Metallic Eye Shadows

Bobbi-Brown-Metallic-Eye-Shadow-in-Mint-and-Shimmer-Wash-Eye-Shadow-in-GunmetalThose of you who read Sassy Dove often know that I love intense, wild eyeshadow colors, so I was excited to try Bobbi Brown’s metallic eyeshadows collection. Voted Best Eye Shadow by Self Magazine, the line includes a large range of colors that piqued my artsy interest.

I was pleased by the many shade choices which ran the gamut from pale pink and lavender to dark brown and navy. Bobbi’s line is more shimmery and pearly than glittery, making it easy to avoid the drag queen effect that often accompanies more luminous makeup. However, the muted sparkle makes the darker shades look less metallic than the lighter ones. My favorites from this line: Champagne Quartz, Pink Pearl, Sage and Velvet Plum.

Makeup Reviews: MAC Cosmetics Paint Pot

MAC Cosmetics Paint Pot ReviewOne of the most iconic makeup products is also one of my favorite components to my daily beauty routine: the MAC Paint Pot. The product can be used either for pigment, or for priming the eyelids before application of eyeshadow; I use it most often for the second instance, and it works wonders. I have mine in Painterly, a creamy nude beige color, but they are also available in a wide variety of other colors, both pearly and matte.

The paint pot intensifies the color of your shadows, making them vibrant and true. Green is really green; blue is really blue.

Eye Makeup Review: Lancome Color Design Sensational Effects Eyeshadow

Eye Makeup Review Lancome Color Design Sensational Effects EyeshadowSpoiler alert: I love these shadows! I got this Lancome eyeshadow palette as a gift with purchase with the shades Latte (off-white), Suntouched (beige-gold), Designer (shiny olive green) and Lezard (deep brown). The Latte and Lezard are matte, while Suntouched and Designer are shimmery (they call the Designer shade metallic).

These eyeshadows feel silky and luxe to apply, and actually stay in place, unlike the wealth of drugstore shadows scattered throughout my giant makeup case. There are tons of shades to choose from, too! They blend easily, have rich, intense color, and don’t bunch up in your crease. In fact, this might be my new favorite eyeshadow. *hides from the MAC gods who are no doubt throwing down lightning bolts*

The only problem I have is the price – $17 for one shade is pretty steep. (Not like MAC’s any cheaper…please forgive me, MAC! I still love you!) Man, I’m getting spoiled by this department store schwag. Will Maybelline ever be the same for me again?

Revlon Diamond Lust Sheer Shadow Eye Makeup Review

Revlon Diamond Lust Sheer Shadow Eye Makeup ReviewI’ve been trying to get ahold of all of the Revlon Limited Edition Collection makeup, so here’s a review for one of my latest acquisitions. These eyeshadows come in delectably feminine pastels, and the first one I got was Pillow Talk Pink – what an adorable name, huh? It’s actually not my favorite of the colors available; the White Hot, Grab Me Gold and Bedroom Bronze are all much more flattering and useful.

The shadows are touchably soft when you apply them, but they aren’t the most intense in either shine or color. It’s a more shimmery finish than it is glittery, which makes the application smoother and less likely to smudge, but the shine is minimal.

Eye Makeup Review: Maybelline Shadow Stylist Loose Powder Eyeshadow

Eye Makeup Review Maybelline Shadow Stylist Loose Powder Eyeshadow CalendarI often find regular powder eyeshadows smudge too easily, so I’m attracted to products like this with alternative application methods. I purchased Maybelline Shadow Stylist Loose Powder Eyeshadow in both Contemporary White and Romantic Pink (blushy shades are supposed to highlight blue eyes well). Both colors are nice and intense. The “loose powder” part of the description doesn’t exactly translate when you apply it – it feels more like a cream – but that’s fine with me, as again, I’m trying to avoid the mess.

I don’t really feel white has much place in general shadow use such as applying all over the eyelid, but I use it often for highlighting the inside corners and lower inner rim of my eyes. The applicator is a classic felt tip similar to many eyeliners, and I love it. Regular shadow is too much work to get pure color out of – go with a product like this instead!

The verdict: 10/10! There’s really nothing bad to say about it. If you want intense, easy to apply eye color, here it is.

Maybelline Shadow Stylist Loose Powder Eyeshadow sells at Amazon.com for $12.64.
