Ready for some Old Hollywood makeup? I’ve been into the style ever since I dressed as Marilyn Monroe for Halloween (admittedly I did not pull it off as well as Debby Ryan did Marilyn).
This year, I went as Dottie Hinson (the spitfire girl ballplayer played by Geena Davis from A League of Their Own) since I was determined to stay a redhead for Halloween. Dottie’s makeup is Old Hollywood, but a little rougher and dirtier since she likes to play in the clay. I kicked her simpler look up a notch cause, well, I’m not playing baseball outside.
Here’s the video with my usual touch of humor and complete lack of class:

Vanessa Hudgens, who once played Gabriella in the Disney hit that just won’t quit High School Musical, has since gone down the now well-traveled track of Disney stars and become a much more risque character. She told InStyle which products kept her in the hearts of tweens everywhere, and which ones now keep her in the minds of their male counterparts.
- Vanessa lovesRodial Glam, which adds dewiness from head to toe.
- The teen queen gives her pout sparkle with By Terry Laque de Rose or Jouer gloss in Starfish.
- Vanessa lines her lips with Stila Glaze lip liner in Melon.
- The starlet makes her skin look flawless with Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation #8 and Clarins Instant Light Perfecting Touch #3.
- Vanessa digs Maybelline’s Lash Discovery mascara: “No matter how much you layer, it refuses to clump.”
- Her favorite eye makeup looks? Shu Uemura’s ME Blue 600 with black liner, or a violet smoky eye with Dior’s 5-Colour Eyeshadow palette in Stylish Move.
- For glowy cheeks, Vanessa chooses Three Custom Color Specialists blush in Pink Hyacinth.
Maybelline Mineral Power Natural Perfecting Foundation is the liquid version of Maybelline’s Bare Escentuals-esque mineral powder foundation. I tried it in Light Beige, and I have to say that the shade bordered a bit on orange-y. My skin has warm yellow undertones so I’m not exactly complaining, but who’s heard of an orangey beige?
This SPF 18 foundation offers an on-the-fence type of coverage, definitely not sheer and definitely not full. While it seemed to mask minor discoloration like dark undereye circles well, my blemishes showed right through, so plan on using a concealer in conjunction with this baby if you’ve got zits.

The mineral makeup craze is booming – so much so that even our drugstore pals Maybelline couldn’t help but get in on the action! Let’s try out the new rating system on Maybelline Mineral Power Natural Perfecting Concealer.
For a drugstore product, I was very impressed with this concealer’s coverage. This baby blotted out my dark undereye circles with the greatest of ease!
While it was thick and matte, the finish wasn’t amazing and was almost grainy-looking. Still, I thought it made my skin look more natural than most concealers do, and it blended easily (at least to my skin in color Fair: Light 0-1).

I got Maybelline’s Define-A-Lash mascara in #601 Very Black and I’m trying a new makeup rating system for mascaras, so check it out:
Wow! Define-A-Lash made my eyelashes look a half-inch longer. Seriously!
My lashes were well-defined, but the mascara didn’t find all of them. Try this instead: L’Oreal Paris Telescopic Mascara
An unexpected bonus! My lashes reached for the sky.
