I love tinted moisturizers in general, so I decided to try BeneFit’s You Rebel Lite. I find the whole “tinted moisturizer” thing to be a bit of a misnomer for You Rebel Lite, as this product has the consistency and coverage closer to a light foundation. And the “Lite” isn’t an indication of texture, either – they released this version after complaints from fair-skinned babes that the original You Rebel was a bit too dark, so the name is all about the color. It’s not any less thick and creamy than the original.
My first suggestion is to be careful not to go overboard with this product – you only need a pea-sized dollop for your whole face. Remember that it’s a moisturizer, so a little goes a long way. If your skin is normal or oily, it should add plenty of moisture for ya. You Rebel Lite also provides a lot more coverage than I expected – I imagine you could skip your foundation and use only some concealer under your eyes or on blemishes and You Rebel. It also has SPF 15 in it, which is a good thing for you naughty girls who never wear sunscreen (tch tch!) Don’t be scared of the color – it looked too tan for my skin coming out of the bottle, but went on beautifully and blended right in.
Now for the downsides: it didn’t seep in as well as I’d expect a moisturizer to; it pretty much sat on top of my skin more like a foundation. As well, it got a little greasy as the day grew long and hot. Finally, it smelled a bit like self tanner, which bothers me because I despise that smell. But I’ve never seen this kind of golden, dewy natural glow from a tinted moisturizer, and that’s saying something.
The verdict: 7/10 – the effect is beautiful and natural, but the consistency is a little heavy for a tinted moisturizer. Still, I’ll wear it again just for the refreshed look it gives me!
