How to Select an Inground Pool Pump

It seems like every year the summer passes faster and faster. But we all want so much to make it a little longer, sunbathe in the sun, eat fruits and berries, and, of course, splash in warm water. That`s why the installation of private pools is becoming an increasingly popular service. There are a lot of pool options – from simple inflatable and frame pools to Inground ones. https://www.globosurfer.com/best-above-ground-pools/ are installed right on the ground, collected in minutes and easily transferred from place to place. Inground pools are usually dug into the ground, they are more expensive, but also more comfortable and durable. And each type of pool needs its own pump that will solve all tasks. Let’s have a look at what different pumps and how to choose the right model for your Inground pool.

How it works

An inground pool looks like a reservoir for bathing that can have different shape and size. Unlike the above ground pools that usually stand right on the ground, they are placed in a previously excavated recess. The size and shape are directly dependent on the type of the chosen product. The water purification and drainage systems, which also complement the pool, form a part of separate structural and functional elements of any pool. They are necessary for quickly filling the tank and draining the liquid from it. All these processes are carried out due to the pumps and filters, and you can get all the materials you need to do it yourself from WR Meadows.

Before we start to choose the right pool, let’s have a quick look at some models and their features. There are three main types of Inground pool, each of which influences the pump choice:

Polypropylene Pools

One of the most popular materials for Inground pools is polypropylene. Its elastic features allow us to give the pool any shape we’d like. The material does not decompose in the ground; it’s environmentally safe, characterized by low weight and high strength. Polypropylene pool can be installed on a flat platform, but usually, it is dug in, and a concrete base is poured under the bottom. Flexible polypropylene sheets allow us to create a bowl of any shape, and the walls don’t require additional sealing. Polypropylene has anti-slip properties, and a person can stand steadily in water.

Concrete Pools

Concrete pools are considered to be the most reliable. Concrete is durable and resistant to low temperatures. A reinforced concrete pool will last for at least 20 years. But the significant problem of the concrete pool is the laboriousness of the installation process, and in case of violation of the installation technology, the concrete bowl can split. Reinforced concrete construction requires precise adherence to the installation technology for improperly equipped cushion will lead to the bottom subsidence, and poor-quality concrete or a weak reinforcing frame will cause cracks.

Composite Pools

An Inground composite pool meets all current requirements. The bowl consists of 6-9 layers of material. Both the arrangement of the pit and the installation take about a week. The Inground bowl made of composite materials is resistant to mechanical damage, as well as to the effects of aggressive chemicals. The cup has a perfectly smooth surface without seams. A composite pool is a vast one-piece bowl, and you will need specialized equipment to deliver it to the site. You can order a pool only at the unique factory, and the choice of forms and dimensions is limited to standard offers.

Knowing the type and the material of your Inground pool is quite important because these factors influence the work and the installation of the pump. In our other reviews, we`ve already discussed how to select a pool pump. You can use our previous advice as they are right for any pool type. But now when we`re speaking about the Inground pools, we are ready to distinguish some more points that you should pay your attention on during the selection of a pool pump.

Mind your pool

As long as you have an Inground pool you have high volumes. That means that one single pump would hardly be able to cope with all the water and solve all the problems. Such pools require at least two or three pumps where the main one filters water and the others pump it up, drain, and set circulation.

Speed

Since the Above Ground frame and inflatable pools have a small volume, they require the most common pump, the speed of which doesn`t matter so much. But in the case of the Inground pools, the power and speed of the pump become a significant issue. When buying a pump, pay attention to its speed. The higher it is, the faster the pump will cope with the volume of water, and therefore will consume less electricity and power.

Surface or Submersible

According to this classification, there are three types of pumps: surface, submersible, and semi-submersible. Surface pumps are located above the water level, and its intake goes by means of a particular pipe. Such pumps have a relatively simple design and low price, but are not suitable for large pools, as they wear out quickly. For the Inground pool better choice is submersible and semi-submersible pumps. They are put directly in the water and produce water intake without additional pipes. Submersible pumps are not limited in depth and have good suction power.

Material

As a rule, inflatable and frame pools are installed seasonally and get almost zero services. Some owners don’t even use pumps and filters, not even mentioning various chemical mixtures necessary for water disinfection. Inground pools require care. This means that large volumes of water along with chemicals more actively influence the pump and its parts. Materials determine the strength and durability of the device under the pressure of chemical and mechanical stress. It`s better to choose pumps made of cast iron, bronze or special high-strength plastic that is resistant to corrosion.

An Inground pool installation is a relatively expensive process. Accordingly, such a construction also requires high-priced equipment. A right pump will serve you well and save you from many worries. And we hope that our advice will help you choose the best pump for your pool.
