Holiday Hairstyle Tips From AG Hair Cosmetics

Inspired by art deco, hair this holiday season is timeless, feminine and glam. “Much like the paired down fashion of the 1930s, hair becomes the focal point this holiday,” says Jo-Anne Dicken, AG Hair Cosmetics’ updo guru. “This holiday we’re seeing styles similar to what you’d expect on the sophisticated red carpet of the Uptown district in Manhattan.” AG recommends trying one of these hairstyles for your holiday celebrations:

AG Hair Cosmetics Diva How-ToThe Diva

Before creating this ultra glamorous updo, prepare your hair with a volumizing product like AG’s Foam Weightless Volumizer and blow-dry with your hair flipped upside down. Get The Diva’s fullness and width by curling the hair with magnetic rollers and pinning curls in different heights for a fresh holiday silhouette.

Haircare 101: Choosing the Right Brush

How to Choose the Right Hair BrushAre you using the right brush on your hair? Most of us have no clue as to what kind of hairbrush we should be using to curl, straighten, add volume, or simply brush our hair with.

As I discussed in my quest for long hair, I’ve learned that most of us greatly underestimate physical damage to our hair, lots of which comes from brushing. As a general rule, if you want to avoid damaging your hair, the best thing to look for is no seams. That means no little ball tips with edges to shred your hair – nothing but smoothness on the bristle.

I guarantee you that anything with seams will rip up your strands if your hair is at all fine like mine.

That being said, no one thing works for everybody, so here’s a simple guide on which brush to use for various hair types and styling needs:

CHI Silk Infusion Review

chi silk infusionThough I try to avoid heat styling, I do adore my CHI flat iron, and my friends have been raving to me about Farouk’s hit companion goodie CHI Silk Infusion since I can remember. In fact, this product’s been such a sensation, I’m rather embarrassed to just now be jumping on the bandwagon. Late to the game is better than never showing up at all, right?

Silk Infusion is the perfect name for this leave-in. I only use a tiny amount, but my color-fried locks feel amazingly soft. With my thick hair, I often have problems with leave-ins being too gunky and weighty – but not this baby! Silk Infusion glides in without adding a hint of buildup.

Chi Silk Infusion can go on dry hair, but I also like to style by applying it while my hair’s still wet and blow-drying it in.

The verdict: 10/10! Believe the hype.

CHI Silk Infusion sells for $8.95 in the 2oz. size at Amazon.

Get Meg Ryan’s Curly Hairstyle From The Women

meg ryan_the_women_001Jealous of Meg Ryan’s ringlets in her chick-flick The Women? (How many chick flicks has this woman been in anyway?) Here’s a simple formula for achieving Meg’s perfectly defined curls, whether your hair is straight, curly, kinky or somewhere in between!

If you have straight hair:
  1. Apply volumizing mousse throughout wet hair. Braid the entire head into 4-6 large braids. Gently tie ends with a cloth band.
  2. Spray Ouidad Styling Mist to set the look. Sit under a dryer or let your hair air dry.
  3. Once hair is dry, remove the braids and finish the look with a shine serum. Rub the serum into your palms and then run your hands through your hair to distribute the serum evenly.
