Eye Makeup Review: L’Oreal Voluminous Eyeliner Mistake-Proof Marker

Gwen Stefani L'oReal Mistake Proof Marker

Eye Makeup Review L'Oreal Voluminous Eyeliner Mistake-Proof Marker Gwen StefaniI use eyeliner nearly every day I put on makeup, and it’s also one of the products I get the most questions about because it’s hard to apply perfectly. Pencil liner smudges and moves, while liquid requires an experienced hand and can look overdone. So when I saw L’Oreal’s Mistake-Proof Marker eyeliner, I had to try it. Who could resist an allegedly easy solution to our multitude of lining problems? After all, the package claims the flow is “controlled and continuous so you can easily follow the contour of the eye without skipping – no need to dip in the bottle”, and that it won’t smudge.

Of course, like most things, the reality of this product isn’t as amazing as the marketeers make it sound. I consider myself extremely handy with liner, and I had a hard time producing the line I wanted with it. (I chose the black, of course.) The slanted tip is an innovative idea for easily changing line width, but it essentially produces two widths rather than the extremely flexible variations you can get with a brush tip.

Additionally, the flow isn’t even and controlled, but rather mostly too thin with some spottiness. It dried decently, but took a long time in doing so and definitely smudged. Overall, I was extremely disappointed – this product was not what the package cracked it up to be.

The verdict: 2/10– doesn’t do anything very well. I’d stick with my Maybelline Ultra Liner as far as drugstore eyeliners are concerned.

L’Oreal Voluminous Eyeliner Mistake-Proof Marker is available at Walgreens for $7.49.

  1. This is the best eyeliner I’ve used over the past 21 years. If your line isn’t perfect, you can just touch it up with a q-tip dampened with water before it sets. Once it dries, it stays put for the next 12-18 hrs (yes, on drunken nights out in my 20s I have fallen asleep with it on – and people are amazed that I can wake up looking like I just put on makeup).

I can’t believe there are so many negative reviews for this. I wish L’oreal would’ve put instructions on the package to use a dampened q-tip to perfect the line before it sets.
